New Residents

New Resident Information

Welcome to Genoa Charter Township. The following information is provided to answer frequently asked questions.

Tax Information

Tax bills go out July 1st for the summer tax bill and December 1st for the winter tax bill. If you don't receive a bill please contact the Treasurer Department.

When you get a new dog, please come in and see us at the Treasurer Department. Make sure to bring the paperwork from your vet showing latest rabies vaccinations and if the pet is spayed or neutered.

Assessing Information

All new property owners should turn in a Property Transfer Affidavit within 45 days of closing. If the property is going to be your principal residence, a Homeowner's Principal Residence Exemption (PRE) needs to be filed. To have the exemption for that year you need to own and occupy your home before June 1st of that year.

Every February you will receive an Assessment Notice. This will have your new State Equalized Value and Taxable Value for that year. If you have any questions about these figures please contact the Assessing Department. You may also make an appointment for the Board of Review which meets in March where you can challenge your assessed value. The Board of Review will also accept letters by mail or fax if you cannot attend in person. For more information, visit the Assessing Department.

Refuse Information

Refuse Information

All residential homes have household garbage removed by Advanced Disposal, which is contracted through the Township. Genoa Township residents will pay $131.00 on your 2018 winter tax bill for this service.  This cost is reviewed and set annually by the Township Board during the budget process.  Click on the Waste Wizard widget above to learn more about what kinds of refuse Advanced Disposal collects and if special requirements are needed.  Please arrange to have freon removed from any items BEFORE they are placed out for pickup.

Refuse Pickup Dates

Simply place your refuse out on your scheduled day using your assigned Advanced Disposal 96-gallon cart to start using the service.  All refuse items must fit into the cart.  You can enter your residential address in the My Schedule widget above to find your Trash Collection Day.  If you have any problems with your garbage pickup, please call Advanced Disposal at 810-201-5576 or you can contact the Township at 810-227-5225.

Recycling Pickup Dates

Advanced Disposal will provide every resident with a recycling cart for your recycling. Please contact Advanced Disposal at 810-201-5576 if you do not receive your recycling cart.  Recycling is picked up every two weeks with your regular garbage on your assigned pickup day. You can enter your residential address in the My Schedule widget above to find your Recycling Collection Day.

Bulk Item Pickup Program

A bulk item for garbage pick-up is anything too big to fit into your garbage can.  One bulk item can be placed out each week for pickup on your assigned pickup day.  You can enter your residential address in the My Schedule widget above to find your Bulk Item Collection Day.
